Google+social media = ranking factor
If you were still toying with introducing social media into your business marketing mix, then toy no longer!
Google indicated last year that it will include in its algorithms, popularity from the various social platforms.
That shift in the way in which search results will reflect, what Michelle McPherson calls ‘social signals’ is now underway, and gathering momentum especially with the introduction of Google+.
Michelle is a respected social media commentator. In this video from February 2011, she explains how social media popularity is becoming a serious ranking factor.
What is noteworthy about this, is her contention that your content will now have to stand up to social media scrutiny.
In other words, it needs to be content that your fans, followers and connections want to pass around.
Remember Yvonne and her statement that your ‘Blog is at the flagship of your social media strategy‘?
The advent of Google+
With the advent of Google+, Google is signalling very clearly that your content and how it is treated in your social media networks is going to have a direct correlation on your ranking and on your author authority.
I would love to be writing a long piece on how to use Google+.
But for now, we must wait while Google gets through the equivalent of it current exclusive invite only to the Googliterati and opens the doors to the rest of us.
If you are really keen, you can search around, as I have, to find people who are in the inner circle who are willing to invite you in, if you like them in return.
Hopefully, I will soon (next week or so) be in the ‘inner circle’ and able to report on what this new kid on the social media block can do for your business and how to best to use it.
